Book Review: Once Upon a Flock

This book is so sweet, I read it in one sitting!

The author definitely catches the joy of chicken raising, with adorable photos and drawings to showcase her journey.  She raises her flock from chicks to adults, through sickness and health, and of course adds some roosters into the fun.  I could relate to everything, and really enjoyed this book.

People laugh when I say my chickens have personalities.  They really do, and this book proves it!

The Pelican Inn Weekend Getaway

The husband and I escaped from the city, and headed north to the sweet little Pelican Inn.  Great service, delicious food on the menu, and I just love the ambiance of their bar.  The weather cooperated and we saw the most amazing sunset.  Makes me appreciate where I live.

Breaking News: Orchid Blooms for the First Time in 6 Years

Yowza!

We bought this orchid from an orchid show about 6 years ago.  We were told it would bloom in a couple years.  It took longer than that, and we had pretty much given up on it.  And then...this!  These gorgeous flowers lasted about 4 months, and smelled deliciously like grapes.

Eggs, American vs. British

I thought this article on American egg regulations vs. British was fascinating.  So glad I have four hens who hook me up!

Hawaii, The Big Island in photos

I spent a week in Hawaii with family.  It was so nice to get away from the chill of winter, and feel some hot sun.  We saw whales every day, manta rays, geckos and gorgeous flowers.

Book Review: Telegraph Hill

My latest book craze is mysteries.  I used to love self-help books, then I got into novels, and now I can't get enough of a good thriller.

My most recent read was Telegraph Hill, by John Nardizzi.  Nardizzi is a private investigator and author.  His book takes you from the city of Boston to the seedy side of San Francisco's criminal world.  Lots of funny one-liners, and I like to read what Ray Infantino, his starring detective, orders to eat.

Check it out!
